1. Plan the layout in advance

Most rooms in the game can be expanded and combined, and elevators allow your residents to access different floors. However, moving between rooms becomes very slow if you create a maze of disconnected areas. So it's best to know which layout to use when you start building. You should make sure that all your lifts form a straight line down. Make sure your residents can travel easily. Most people choose to either place the elevators on either side of the vault or the three-block room in the middle.

2. Don't expand too quickly

Each new room in the vault consumes additional power, so you don't need to add rooms you can't use. Then expand the range when you have enough power capacity. You should also make sure you have enough residents to use these extra rooms, otherwise, they are a waste.

3. Arm all residents with weapons

You may be tempted to scrap and sell unused weapons, but you may find that giving them to your populace will better protect them. These weapons help your populace prepare for accidents and raids.

4. Manage residents using the resident list

The resident list is a cog in the upper left corner of the screen that contains an overview of all vault residents. This makes it easy to check residents' health and skills. What's more, it also makes it easier to check whether your residents are staying productive. If you see residents taking coffee breaks, it means they are not assigned a room. Click on a resident's icon and you can assign them to a room to work on.
